You are not required to stay in Mauritius for any specific number of days in a year on a permit. However, it will come into play when looking at tax residency or renewal of the residence permit as a retired non-citizen.
DOES THE RETIREMENT PERMIT ALLOW YOU TO STAY FOR 10 YEARS WITHOUT EXITING THE COUNTRY?
This is a Residence Permit – so you are allowed to enter and exit the country for as long as the permit is valid without needing to complete any additional visa requirements.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A RETIREMENT VISA AND HOW LONG IS IT VALID FOR? IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT?
The applicant should be at least 50 years of age and able to transfer USD 18,000 annually from a foreign bank account to a local one. This may be by regular instalments or through lump sum payment. The permit is currently valid for 3 years but is set to have a 10-year validity.

WOULD RETIRED APPLICANTS UNDER FAMILY OR RETIRED APPLICATIONS BE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO MEDICAL TESTS? ARE THERE ANY OBVIOUS HEALTH EXCLUSIONS?
Everyone coming to Mauritius is required to undergo medical tests in Mauritius. Tests are also dependent on the person’s age and country of origin.
